In the spring of 1997 an abused Amish plough horse stood alone on Pennsylvania's New Holland auction block. Despite yoke scars and protruding ribs, buyers from various dog food companies bid vigorously for the eighteen-hand Percheron.

It would be a rescue farm that bought the horse, however. And a few months later Goliath was sold to David Baker who brought him to his Bucks County pastures. After about a year of good food and lots of love, the sparkle came back to Goliath's eyes. The fat, grateful, and very gentle giant brought squeals of laughter to whole groups of children who sat along his back...all at once! He enjoyed riding the trails of Pennsylvania's hardwood forests with David or his wife, Sue, but loved most of all to doze leisurely in the shade.

After a happy 10 year retirement on the Baker farm, Goliath died on February 20, 2007. He is greatly missed.

Believe it or not, his two 'friends' stayed by his grave for 4 hours...they wouldn't budge.
